About Sally Boyd, CLM
Sally Boyd is a Middle Eastern Dance instructor and performer who found (and
continues to find) her way back to well-being following breast cancer through dance and
The Lebed Method.
Originally from Omaha, Ne, Sally has a degree in Broadcast Production and former
professional life in marketing/pr. A background in musical theatre, she discovered
Middle Eastern Dance (bellydance) in her 30's. Hundreds of classes, workshops and
performances later, she took the plunge to start teaching. She is the Director of
BellaBelly - Bellydance Instruction and Performance and teaches at the Tennessee
Conservatory of Fine Arts in Knoxville. (Please visit www.bellabelly.net for more details.)
She has introduced countless women of all ages, shapes, sizes and health concerns to
expressive, affirming movement, creating for them a fun, accepting and appropriately
challenging learning environment. Sally also offers a special bellydancing class (Diva
Nation) just for women in emotional/physical healing mode who are working to regain a
positive body image and sense of well-being. Diva Nation focuses on slow, sensual, no-
and low-impact movements set to Middle Eastern music. These classes are distinctively
different from standard health club or performance-oriented bellydance classes. Sally is
uniquely qualified to gently and compassionately guide women to what is certain to be a
new favorite activity.
Known for her humor, enthusiasm and borderline nerdiness, Sally has a "leave no
stone unturned" commitment and ability to demonstrate and explain movements and
cultural nuances.
Her personal journey through a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment has only served
to deepen her empathy and connection to others through movement. Involved in several
community non-profit organization events each year, her dance troupe has strong ties to
local assisted living facilities where they visit and perform often.
Sally recently became a Certified Lebed Method Instructor and will soon be announcing
Healthy-Steps classes. Healthy-Steps uses popular music from a large variety of styles
and genres. All exercises can be performed either standing or seated and fun props are
incorporated -- always keeping it fresh and fun.
